What happens in counselling?
During counselling you will be given the opportunity to talk about your problems. Your therapist will help you to work through these difficulties and find a way of moving forward.
Your therapist will listen and help you clarify your thoughts with regard to your problems and to help you to come up with solutions which are right for you.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
The time will be devoted to allowing you to talk about your present difficulties as well as sharing more general information. You may also ask any questions you may have about counselling.
This is a chance for you and your therapist to establish: what are your current problems; which type of therapy may help these; and whether you feel comfortable to work with your therapist.
Who else will know what has been discussed?
Whatever you talk about during your sessions will remain confidential between yourself and your therapist, with the following exceptions: Firstly, therapists have regular clinical supervision to ensure they are working effectively with their clients. In order to make sure they are giving you the best service possible they will need to share some aspects of your sessions with their supervisor who will not disclose them further; Secondly, if at any time during your treatment the therapist feels that you are at risk of harming yourself or anyone else they will have to inform your G.P. However, should the need arise, they will talk to you about this before discussing it with your G.P.
How long are the sessions?
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
How much do the sessions cost?
